New bioscience incubator facility will open in Spring 2006!

This bioscience research park, developed in conjunction with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, is located on the Farmingdale State University campus, Long Island, New York.  Conveniently located one mile from the Long Island Railroad, Broad Hollow Bioscience Park is an easy 55-minute train ride from Manhattan any time of day or just 35 minutes by car during off-peak hours.

Building-II will open May 2006; a 47,000 square foot facility dedicated to startup and early-stage bioscience companies.  (Building-I is a 63,500 square foot facility home to the Park’s anchor tenant OSI Pharmaceuticals and two startup companies.)  The facilities are constructed to support all levels of bioscience research and provide common service areas shared by tenant companies.  The Bioscience Park also utilizes the resources of the university to enhance its program; services include:

· glass washer              · sterilizing equipment   · ice making machine

· copier                        · postage machine                    · data connectivity

· voice mail                  · telephone connectivity            · conference room

· library                        · athletic facility                        · childcare center

The state of the art facilities are supported by a computerized HVAC system capable of adjusting to the needs of each laboratory whether you are performing biology or computational chemistry.  Test results are important and the Bioscience Park’s backup generator will keep your experiments running should a power outage ever occur.  An electronic entry key system ensures only employees of tenant companies have access to the facility and day or night, employees can complete their work.

To support the growth of our tenant companies and this developing bioscience cluster, Farmingdale State University started a bachelor’s in bioscience program in 2003.  One of the university’s faster growing curriculums, students will intern with companies and provide the bench scientist to support a growing cluster.

The Route 110 location of Broad Hollow Bioscience Park also lends itself to future business expansion in the immediate area and the program is also:

1)      Addressing workforce housing issues

2)      Planning a biotech accelerator facility, Building-III, for secondary stage company development

3)      Working with community leaders and real estate developers to plan future bioscience expansion

Current companies in the Route 110 Bioscience Corridor include (underlined companies are tenants of Broad Hollow Bioscience Park):

· Altana Pharma – pharmaceuticals and chemicals

· Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory – cancer, neuroscience, genomics and bioinformatics

· Enzo Biochem – gene modification and regulation technologies

· Forest Laboratories – central nervous system drugs

· Helicon Therapeutics – neurological drug development

· ICON Laboratories – lab services for clinical trial

· IRx Therapeutics – cellular immune enhancing drugs

· Nikon - microscopes

· OSI Pharmaceuticals – oncology drug development

· Precision Pharma Services – contract manufacturing drug development services

Situated on the Farmingdale State University campus, Broad Hollow Bioscience Park offers the best of both worlds – an entrepreneurial environment and the option of recreational activities right next door.  Farmingdale State campus amenities are available to the Park’s tenant companies.  From the golf driving range and golf simulator, to analyze your golf swing, the campus offers a complement of recreational athletic facility options including: weight room, squash courts, swimming pool and gymnasium.  Adjacent to the campus is the beautiful Bethpage State Park and the Black Golf Course, home of the Professional Golf Association (PGA) U.S. Open 2002 and 2009 championship tournaments and just one of five courses in this state park.
